Asking for the Rain of Revival - Part 1

Introduction

"Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field."  

— Zechariah 10:1  

This passage opens with a powerful word: ASK. God is giving us a blank cheque to keep asking until something changes. The promise is clear—He will make bright clouds, He will send showers, and He will pour out His Spirit on everyone. This is the kairos moment in God’s calendar. Every time is not the same in His agenda, and this is the season of the latter rain.

The Call to Ask

The essence of this message is to awaken us from spiritual sleep, stir us out of weakness, and ignite a hunger for revival.  

- Before harvest, there must be rain.  

- God is set for a harvest, but He calls us to ask for the rain of revival.  

- This outpouring is for everyone—no one is left out.  

Prophets like Zechariah understood this. They saw the future and spoke in light of it. Leonard Ravenhill described prophets as God’s emergency men for crisis hours—men who thrive on perplexity, override adversity, and birth revival.  

The Season of the Latter Rain

This is not just any time—it is the time of the latter rain. These are the latter days, and God is visiting His Church with a latter-day outpouring.  

- Joel 2:28-29: “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh...”  

- Sons and daughters will prophesy.  

- Young men will see visions.  

- Old men will dream dreams.  

This is the promise of revival, and the season is now. We must plug into this vision by asking for the rain.

Restoration Through Revival

The call to ask is also a call to repentance and restoration. God wants to restore:  

- The fire of revival.  

- The life that brings glory to Him and transformation to men.  

Heaven will facilitate it. God will make us hungry, passionate, and pregnant with vision. He will ignite in us a passion for revival that cannot be quenched.

More Than Mercy Drops

Too often, we settle for little pockets of revival—what Leonard Ravenhill warned against as mistaking rattle for revival, commotion for creation, and action for unction. But God promises showers of rain, not just mercy drops.  

True revival makes people God-conscious. It restores passion for seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. It hosts the presence of God and sustains a permanent state of revival.

The Call to Action

So what must we do? Ask.  

- Ask for the move of God.  

- Ask for personal revival.  

- Ask until the hand of God turns things around.  

- Ask until you can say you have secured the blessing of the Lord.  

Revival rain is promised, but it must be asked for. This is the time, this is the season, and the promise is here.

Conclusion

The latter rain is not automatic—it is invited. God calls us to ask, to hunger, to repent, and to host His presence. The showers of revival are for everyone, and they will transform the Church and society.
