Asking for the rain of revival Part 2

Introduction

We previously examined Zechariah 10:1—the call to ask for the rain of revival. Now, let's turn to Zechariah 10:2:  

"For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd."  

This verse depicts a situation that needs urgent attention—a divine intervention. It is the clear picture of a nation, a generation, or a congregation in desperate need of revival.

The Cry for Shepherds

Revival occurs when heaven finds men with shepherd’s hearts who can spearhead the move of God as they are led. It begins with prayer, but it often spirals into evangelism, teaching, intercession, writing, crusades, fellowships, and churches—yet prayer must remain central in all of these.  

God’s response to vanity and falsehood in our spaces is to raise shepherds. He is looking for kingdom fathers, mothers, disciplers, and mentors with a burden for the next generation. Are you willing to be forged for this purpose?

A Generation Without Direction

"The people went their way"—they did what was right in their own eyes and lived without guidance. A generation without direction is heading for destruction. Without guiding hands, disaster looms.  

In a world of dazzling sights and sounds, coupled with endless distractions, it takes discipline to secure the leading of the Spirit. Technology has made information available at the tap of a finger, but our generation needs more than information.  

We need:  

- Inspiration  

- Divine impartation  

The Call of the Prophet

A prophet’s call is critical. He sees the future and speaks from that knowledge. He stirs the sleeping, wakes the slumbering, and shakes people out of their comfort zones.  

Leonard Ravenhill described prophets as:  

"God’s emergency men for crisis hours. They thrive on perplexity, override adversity, bring the new wine of the kingdom to burst withered wineskins of orthodoxy, and birth revival."  

This is the kind of prophetic voice needed in our generation—men and women who will confront vanity, expose falsehood, and lead people back to the Shepherd.

Conclusion

Zechariah 10:2 shows us the tragedy of a generation without shepherds, comforted in vain by false dreams and empty voices. But God’s solution is revival—raising true shepherds, prophets, and disciplers who will lead His people with vision and truth.  

The call remains: Ask for the rain. Ask for revival. Ask God to raise shepherds in our generation. Ask until heaven responds with showers of rain that bring direction, restoration, and transformation.
