Rooted and built up in Him

God’s intention is that everyone who comes to Him will continue with Him eternally. He is not willing that anyone should fall by the wayside. This is the reason He has made adequate provision for every believer to be rooted and built in Him

THE PLANTING OF THE LORD

God builds His people through His word. The seed of the word is planted in us and God expects us to grow as we have more interaction with the word of God (I Peter 2:2). We are the planting of the Lord (Psalm 144:12; Psalm 1:3; 128:13; 61:3) and we only grow by the word of God. The subsequent need for a tree after its planting is to grow. We must take root, or else we cannot stand the test of time. That root can be compared to a foundation that holds a building. Our obedience to the word is crucial to give us a root, yea, a solid foundation (Matt 7:24 – 27).

HAVING NO ROOT...

In the parable of the Sower, our Lord vividly described the heart/life/plant without root as that which receives the word on a stony ground and because of lack of depth (earth) springs up (grew) initially, but since there was no root, it withered away. This happened because of the scorching effects of the sun (Mark)...lacks moisture (Luke)...no depth of earth (Matthew).

This means that this believer did not allow the hammer of God’s word to penetrate his/her heart. The heart has not called to the deepness of God through passionately seeking God in prayer (not for things but for Him).

OTHER TYPES OF SOIL

a. The wayside soil – This heart is interested in the pleasures of this life and so cannot have a sustained walk with God.

b. The thorny soil – Distracted due to the afflictions and challenges of life. Affected due to the persecution that surfaced because of the word of God.

c. The good soil – Patiently endured and allowed the word to make an impact. There is visible growth here.

THE BUILDING PROCESS

There is a need for us to ensure that we grow in grace and the knowledge of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It will happen as we fellowship with the word, spend quality time before God in prayer and have communion with God’s people.
