God is
the Anchor of the soul and a very present help in the time of need. To live
without God is to be in a state of spiritual death. A spiritually dead person
will live according to the dictates of his/her flesh and feelings. He/she will
never be able to please God and walk in the Spirit. A person living without God
will be under the control of satan and his cohorts. Hence, such a person will
be constantly directed, manipulated and assaulted by the devil. The greatest
tragedy of not investing in the spiritual (i.e walking in the Spirit) is that
the person is living in the danger of eternal separation from God.
If we sow
to the flesh, the Bible says we shall reap corruption. This means that sowing
to the flesh is synonymous to sowing to the wind. The result is reaping
destruction. We need to overcome carnality and live in the Spirit. Walking in
the Spirit entails allowing the Lord to take full preeminence over our lives.
It is total submission to the will of God in all things. Walking in the Spirit
also means that we will subdue the flesh and deny it of its illegitimate
desires.
In
investing in the spiritual, we have to return back to the means of grace.
Sometimes, when something is too common, we tend to see them as unimportant.
However, these are the things that bring us strength in the Christian life. If
we fail to engage in these spiritual disciplines, we are basically chasing the
winds. Our time will be spent for other things which will not build our
spiritual man.
The
scriptures contain 66 books which are inspired by the Holy Spirit but penned by
gracious prophets. They are written for our learning, training, guidance and
spiritual edification. He who does not study the scriptures is at a
disadvantage. The word of God helps us navigate safely through life’s storms
and dark moments. It is a light unto our paths and food to the soul. If you
desire to grow in the knowledge of the Lord, open the pages of Bible and you’re
in for a wonderful experience. As you read daily, ask for the illumination of
the Holy Spirit. You can also read Christian literature and listen to sound and anointed preachers of God’s word. These all help to
facilitate your growth in the Christian life.
Prayer is
indispensable. Prayer is life. It simply is communicating with God. It is a
great privilege that God gives us by asking us to pray. He is committed to
prayers of His people. He counsels us to avoid hindrances to receiving answers
and seek Him wholeheartedly. Someone once said, ‘He that can kneel before God
can stand before men’. Prayer brings spiritual strength. It enables us to know
God in an intimate way thereby getting hold of divine strength. A man of much prayer and holiness will walk in the Spirit.
In
investing in the spiritual, another indispensable activity Christians must
engage in is interaction with other believers. This could be done in a
Christian gathering. God has also ordained ministers in the body of Christ that
will help us grow into the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
