Exploring Christ’s letters to the
churches in the book of Revelation will help us to get scriptural and Holy
Spirit inspired information as to where we really are in God.
This instruction came to John in
Revelation 1:11. He was actually in the Spirit before he could receive this
instruction. This is a pointer to us that to decode what God is saying to us,
we cannot approach scriptures with veiled minds and darkened hearts. We must
have experienced the transforming power of the gospel and we must be living and
walking in the Spirit. If the writer did not receive it through the flesh, how
can you then understand if you don’t approach it with a desire to experience
the illumination of the word through the Holy Spirit?
The revelation of the glorified Christ
His head…and hairs – signifying
purity
Eyes – Love and judgement
Feet – strength and beauty
Voice – Authority over the nations
These letters had…
a. The description of Christ
b. Commendation
c. Corrections where necessary
d. Instructions
e. Promise
Ephesus
– 2:1-7
This was a labouring church. It was also a patient and a discerning
church. However, they were not labouring from a point of love. Such people lack
fulfilment in kingdom service. This is because they had left their first love.
They have lost the cutting edge (the
soundness of their relationship with God).
We need to retreat and examine
ourselves. Have we left our first love?
We must serve God with passion and
avoid all links with idolatry. We must rediscover our love for God if we have
lost it. Serving from a position of responsibility is good but the height of it
is serving from the position of love (or out of love).
