        6. Accountability 

Closely tied to fellowship is accountability. Our faith journey requires this because no man is an island. Whether it is to our spouses, a small group or pastor, we must be accountable. We must have someone we can bare it all. 

We must have people we can share our failures and our successes with. We need folks we can share our struggles with so that they can hold us up in prayer. We need people who know us so well and care that they can tell when we are going out of track in our walk with God or when we are drifting away from our purpose in life.

7. Serve the Lord

It is a great privilege to serve the Lord. Ser
ving the Lord means that we engage everything we are and have for the advancement of God here on earth. It is evidence of our commitment and consecration to the Lord. Joshua said, “But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15. 

It is also imperative in our worship. Another word for serving is ministering.

As believers, we are called to minister to the Lord, the body of Christ and the world. In serving the body of Christ, we must discover our ministry gifting. We must know what the Lord has called us to do.

Serving the Lord helps us to know the Lord more intimately and it keeps us conscious of the Lord’s return.

8. Rejoice and give thanks always

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice” Philippians 4:4.

The Lord encourages us to constantly rejoice and live a life of gratitude. We need to allow the joy of the Lord to continually indwell our hearts. The Bible says, “…The joy of the Lord is your strength” Nehemiah 8:10. 

Having a heart of gratitude helps us to see reasons to thank God whether we are in the valley or in the mountaintop of life. It can be very easy to give God praise when things are rosy but how do we do in the moments of slightest difficulty. In order to gain strength to stay deeply rooted, we must understand that God is the Grand Weaver of lives who is interested in the minutest details of our lives.

You can only draw water out of the wells of salvation with joy (Isaiah 12:3). The enemy knows this and that is the reason you must not allow anything to steal your joy. Rejoice!

9. Endure

”But the one who endures to the end will be saved” Matthew 24:13. 

There are many things that we will experience in our pilgrimage. There will be opposition and challenges that will attempt to discourage us in the way. This is the reason the Lord encourages us to endure till the end. 

10. Live with eternity in view 

As we look at the events all around us, it is becoming more certain that the coming of the Lord is getting nearer than ever before. Jesus foretold of the signs of His coming and the happenings that will precede the end of the world. Some of these include the rise of false prophets, wars, pestilences (e.g. COVID-19), persecution of believers, love of many waxing cold, etc. (Read Matthew 24). Our Lord Jesus warned of these things because He wanted us to live in preparation for His coming. We need to live with eternity in view. We need to keep walking in the paths of truth and holiness. As we heed these instructions, we will become deeply rooted in Christ.
