Introduction
Our primary, principal, and perpetual pursuit must be the kingdom of God. This is the mindset we must possess to live correctly and become usable vessels in His hands. In a world filled with countless voices (1 Corinthians 14:10), rediscovering kingdom values and virtues is a dire need. When our focus blurs, our cry must be renewed: “Thy kingdom come.”
This is an opportunity to reset our hearts, reinforce the matter of God’s kingdom, and be set ablaze for kingdom living and labours.
Kingdom-Focused Preaching
Our emphasis determines our results. Preaching that focuses only on earthly breakthroughs produces people who are not kingdom-minded. This is why many stop seeking God once they achieve the success they desire, or why some believers try to imitate worldly superstars.
But preaching the kingdom displaces the operations of other powers and produces transformation.
- Colossians 3:1-2: “Seek those things which are above... Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
- Acts 8:12: When Philip preached the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus, men and women believed and were baptized.
Kingdom preaching produces kingdom people.
Kingdom-Focused Prayers
Prayers centered only on material pursuits leave us dissatisfied and weak. True joy and fulfillment come from perpetual seeking of God.
- Having everything without God is a wrong place to be in.
- Having everything but losing kingdom-mindedness is a waste.
Jesus Himself emphasized the kingdom in His teaching and discipleship. For forty days after His resurrection, He spoke of things pertaining to the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). If His emphasis was the kingdom, ours must be too.
The Key to Growth: Emphasis on the Kingdom
Paul spent months and years persuading people about the kingdom of God (Acts 19:8-10). The kingdom is like a mustard seed—small at first, but growing into something greater than all herbs, providing shelter and influence (Mark 4:30-32).
A kingdom mindset brings growth; a parochial mindset stifles it. We must think beyond our denomination and seek the welfare of the body of Christ. The enemy fears united kingdom pursuit.
- Nehemiah’s enemies were grieved when he sought the welfare of Israel (Nehemiah 2:10).
- Haman sought to destroy the Jews, but Mordecai and Esther stood for the kingdom. Mordecai’s kingdom labor lifted him from obscurity to greatness (Esther 10:3).
Greatness in God’s plan comes through kingdom labours.
Engaging Our Sphere with Kingdom Ideals
The need of the hour is to engage our world with kingdom ideals. Through our lifestyle, lips, and labours, we must exhibit the kingdom. It must be in our hearts, and we must daily seek first the kingdom of God.
Kingdom pursuit is not about neglecting earthly responsibilities, but about ensuring that all we are and all we have serve the advancement of God’s kingdom.
Conclusion
The kingdom of God must be our perpetual pursuit. Preaching, praying, growing, and laboring must all be kingdom-focused. This is the path to true greatness, fulfillment, and transformation.
Let us pray: Lord, redirect my affection to the things above. Make me a vessel for Your kingdom. May my life, my words, and my labours advance Your reign on earth.
