Grace is what God offered humanity through Jesus Christ. The Bible affirms that Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1: 17
The dispensation of grace is characterized by God’s forgiveness to the repentant sinner. Salvation is by grace through faith in accepting the truth that Christ took our place on Calvary’s cross. It is not by works. You cannot be accepted by God because of your works! You do not merit God’s mercy. You are saved by grace! – God’s unmerited favour.
Furthermore, we are not only saved by grace, we are also kept saved by grace. We are kept in the faith by the power of God (that’s grace) 1 Peter 1:5. Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling (that’s grace) Jude 1:24. Grace not only sets us free from the guilt of sin, it also sets us free from the power of sin.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Titus 2:11-12
Let’s study this verse together:
1. Grace brings salvation
2. It is a message that has appeared through the gospel to men (although we have to preach it)
3. Grace teaches us
4. Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness
5. Grace teaches us to live soberly and godly in this present world.
Read this verse over and over and come to understand the power of grace. Take time to pray for a deeper revelation of grace. When you know the power of grace, you will not be content to accept ‘another gospel’ that will bring you into legalism (holier-than-thou attitude, the righteousness of the Pharisees type, righteousness when you see men, especially church people or thinking you can satisfy God by only engaging in service without genuine sanctification etc). You will not also move to the other extreme of living in disgrace i.e living a licentious life under the pretence that you are once saved and forever saved.
