Now, we have come to the third part of this series. One challenge of Hyper-grace adherents is their inability to interpret scriptures. Some months ago, I had a chat with someone who believes in Hyper-grace. My conclusion, in the end, was that there was a challenge in Bible Interpretation.
Peter said, “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16)
This clearly shows that it is very possible to wrest (distort, twist and explain falsely) scriptures. The scriptures also tell us the kinds of people who will always have a distorted view of divine revelation.
1. Unlearned People
a. Language Barrier
b. Inability to engage in deep study of scriptures
c. Lack of understanding of the context in which the scripture was written
d. Lack of understanding of the prevailing cultures when scriptures were written
2. Unstable souls
a. Those that worshipped the LORD, but also served their own gods…2 Kings 17:33. Double-minded people will interpret scriptures wrongly.
b. Those that rise and fall frequently and are not willing to pay the price of discipleship will interpret scriptures wrongly.
c. People who do not have absolute trust in God will interpret scriptures to fulfil their own wishes and defend their sins.
d. Christians who are not constantly growing spiritually. Those who are not taking the sincere milk of God’s word but are growing into the extremes of legalism and licentiousness, as the case may be.
3. Deluded Souls
And for this cause, God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2Thess 2:11. Why did God send this delusion? The reason is in the previous verse. [Who, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. So, these souls can argue against the truth because they are already deluded. God have mercy!
4. Blinded hearts and minds
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore, they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.” John 12:37-40
Some may ask. Did God blind their hearts? No. Every man has free will and there is no such as predestination. Their hearts became blinded as they refused to believe the truth. It is that simple.
5. The unregenerate minds
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Cor4:4
An unsaved mind cannot properly interpret scriptures. You need to be saved before you can understand divine revelation through God’s word. There are many adherents of Hyper-grace teachings who have never been saved. They are standing on sinking sand. They only have a false assurance. They didn’t repent of their sins. They only claimed they believed but there is no evidence of genuine saving faith in their lives.
If you are not genuinely saved...I mean, you have not repented of your sins and have a genuine assurance that God has forgiven you, you can have it now. Pray and ask God to forgive you of every sin. Repent of them and surrender your heart to Christ. Believe He died for you on Calvary’s cross. Thank Him for His salvation.
