To fulfil your mandate as a minister, you must spend time in the secret place of prayer and
study of God’s word because it is only those who know their God that can do
exploits in God’s kingdom (Daniel 11:32). Jesus Christ, in our text, has set
forth an example for all who desire to be used by God. The pathway is giving priority to devotion and communion with God.
Spiritual lethargy will hit any group of believers when the watchmen God has placed to take charge
have gone to sleep. Intercession is gradually becoming a very scarce spiritual activity in
our denominations. There is a need for Christian leaders to give themselves
continually to prayer and the ministry of the word Acts 6:4.
John
Wesley, the great revivalist of the 18th Century once said, “God
does nothing except in response to believing prayer”. This is why God is
calling ministers who desire to be effective in their ministerial endeavours to
the secret place. Matthew 6:6 stresses that prayer is not optional. Notice that
Jesus said, ‘when thou prayest’ and not ‘if thou prayest’.
The
result of the time spent in the secret place will be obvious to all when the
minister exhibits a life of grace and spiritual power. The disregarding of this
divine call and invitation to prayer is the cause of the lack of God’s move and
revival in our Churches today. God’s stand is clear on this matter. Those that wait
upon the Lord (in prayer, study and meditation on God’s word) shall renew their
strength.
God is
still in search of burdened ministers that will stand in the gap and intercede
for the lost and the church in agonizing prayer. May God find us willing and
available Ezekiel 22:30.
