Abraham - Giving and Living by Faith

Abraham was from an idolatrous background. His parents lived in the Ur of Chaldees. God called Abraham to follow Him and abandon his kindred. Abraham obeyed God and went on a journey without having a specific destination in view. God promised to bless him and make him a blessing. Lot followed him on this journey also. Some people are always inspired by our decision to follow the Lord.

Synopsis of his life...

This Patriarch believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. He began a walk of faith with God and communicated severally with God e.g Gen 15. He had the revelation of things that would take place hundreds of years after he must have been long gone.

Abraham was a man clothed with humility. This was seen in his response when the herdsmen of Lot were having issues with his own herdsmen. He sought peace by allowing Lot to choose the place that suited him.

Abraham was a trainer of men. When he heard that his brother Lot had been taken captive, he trained three hundred men of his and his brother was recovered as they went on a battle to save him.

It is also noteworthy that Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah when God told him that the nation was near destruction. Abraham was referred to as a friend of God.

What marked Abraham out in life was his sacrificial nature and obedience backed up by faith. God tested him by asking him to offer Isaac his only son as a sacrifice. He promptly and fully obeyed without questioning God. God saw his faith that he somehow believed that his son would be raised up from the dead. That is complete trust in God.

Giving is living. It is an act of obedience too. Giving is an attribute of those that really believe in God. When you have faith, it will not be difficult to give your time, talent, and treasures. Our generation lacks real givers and sacrificial people.

Fulfilling your purpose in life begins with giving!

First, it begins with giving your life to Christ. Before you begin to think of giving your money, talents, and any other thing you possess to bless lives, give yourself to God first. 

You also need to give yourself to a life of devotion. You need to give yourself to prayer and the word of God. These will help to strengthen your walk with God. You cannot give what you don’t have so you need to be loaded with God’s wisdom before you can have something tangible to impart or share with others.

The men and women who have etched their names in the annals of history were givers. In fact, many paid the ultimate price of giving their lives when the situation demanded it. A selfish life does not make an impact on anyone else.

Commit your life totally to the Lord today. Then, begin to think of what you can give to your generation beginning from people around you. When you start giving and helping people with the things God has blessed you with, then you will find fulfillment. You will find joy and you will not merely exist. You will be truly living.
