Joseph - Sent to preserve lives

Joseph was the beloved son of his father, Jacob. He was especially loved because he was the son of his old age.

Joseph had revelations about his future. The dreams clearly depicted that he was to be a leader. He had been appointed to be relevant to God’s agenda in the coming days. The dreams were clearly misunderstood by his family and those dreams made his brothers hate him.

Joseph’s journey to fulfilling his destiny began the day he was sent by his dad to look after the state of his brothers. His brothers decided to sell him and eventually, he became a servant in the house of Potiphar.

Here, his master handed everything in the house to him and he also observed that God’s presence was with Joseph. This is yet another sign that God was going to entrust leadership into the hands of Joseph. God usually allows us to mature and be properly prepared to take our place for divine purposes. His experience in Potiphar’s house was one of those preparatory grounds.

After some time, Potiphar’s wife began to develop lustful feelings towards Joseph. She kept pressurizing Joseph for closeness and intimacy from time to time. On a particular day, she attempted to force Joseph to have sexual relations with her. Joseph refused, left his garment with her, and fled.

This is a great lesson for young people. Our generation has given us a distorted and incorrect view of the subject of sex. Sex is not seen as sacred anymore. We must not yield to the pressure of having immoral relationships and premarital sex. You must be free from the sexual sins destroying young people today by the grace and power of God.

Come to think of it. If Joseph had yielded, he could have remained permanently in Potiphar’s house. He would be well treated by Mrs. Potiphar and he would have missed God’s plan for his life. May you not miss God’s plan for your life in Jesus’ name.

Joseph was later sent into the prison because Mrs. Potiphar accused him of attempting to rape her. While he was in prison, God was still with him. He was also to oversee the affairs of other prison inmates. This is yet another leadership position. He was being prepared for a greater position.

Eventually, he moved from that prison and became the Prime Minister in the land of Egypt after he gave interpretation to the dream of the king – Pharaoh. This teaches us the need to develop a close walk with God because the secrets of the Lord are with those that fear Him. Those that fear Him are people who walk with Him. It means that have a holy reverence for Him due to their spiritual perception of the awe of God.

Joseph went on to preserve the land of Egypt from starvation and famine. He was mightily used of God indeed. Other surrounding nations also came to Egypt for food (including his own family). He freely forgave his brothers and they reunited again. He also became reunited with his father.
