A Prophet’s vision for revival

Study: Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4; 3:1-4

Habakkuk the prophet caught a burden from the Lord about the state of the people of God. Violence, immorality and injustice were the order of the day in that land. God had a purpose to change the situation of things. When God arrives, a revival occurs. This was the vision God was revealing to the prophet.

The Prophet stands upon his watch. He is waiting for God’s solution. The Lord told him to write the vision. The summation of the vision is in Habakkuk 2:14: For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. This is a global revival. The will of the Lord is that all the nations should be saved and the Church is still the agent for this assignment. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all nations.

As we examine the state of the Church today, we don’t look very much prepared to undertake this assignment. We need to repent of every pride (Hab 2:3,4). We are satisfied with the status quo. We have a name that we are alive but we need to reexamine our true state before God. It is a time to strengthen the things that remain and wake up to righteousness and responsibility. We are responsible for this generation.

Think of the challenges bedevilling our day. The entertainment and film industry in our day promotes the twin evils of violence and sexual immorality. Injustice also is very prevalent. The less privileged keep suffering and there is none to defend the cause of the poor. Many people and communities are experiencing intense hardship due to the fact that terror has been unleashed on them.
However, Jesus is the hope of the nations. He is the light of the world. He is also the answer for today. God’s strategy to redeem the nations is the gospel. The advancement of the gospel is the true voice of revival.

Habakkuk seeks the Lord in prayer and his cry is that the Lord should revive His work. His agenda for transformation among the nations must come to pass. We need divine mercy for the forgiveness of sins.

The testimony of revival is that God has come (Hab 3:3, 4). He came with brightness, light, authority and power. The heavens were full of His glory and all earth was full of His praise. This is the real definition of revival. It is when heaven meets earth. It is heaven on earth. It is when the lives of men praise God as a result of a touch from heaven. The vision God has given you for revival will speak as you run with it. Let it be written deep on your heart and upon the tables. The just shall live by faith. Believe God!

Will you seek God for a true divine visitation upon your life, family, church, school, community and the nations? The Lord is waiting.
