Your gentleness has made me great - 1

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great (Psalm 18:35).

God's purpose for us in Him is greatness and He uses the vehicles of His gentleness towards us and His gentleness in us to take us there.

Isaac, Moses, and Mordecai were considered great in scripture due to specific reasons, yet their true greatness was concealed within God's purpose for them.

Gentleness means being kind, tender or mild-mannered. Being gentle doesn't mean one is weak. Rather, it is a sign of strength. It can be passive or active. It is not synonymous with being quiet.

God exhibited gentleness with David to bring him into the place of greatness because strength, skills and experiences were not enough to lead him to greatness. It was the active kindness (gentleness) of God that made him great.

David learnt gentleness from his relationship with God and that was what contributed to his greatness. Your heart condition will determine your promotion to greatness. David allowed God to prevail on his heart and feelings.

Choosing the path of gentleness in relating with Saul, Abner and Absalom helped him. Joab was quite different. He decided to kill Abner and Absalom. This was the difference between him and David. They were both warriors and could lead an army but only one of them could lead an army and a nation and that was David.

David could easily forgive his offenders. He knew when to sheath his sword and not revenge. God will be pleased to enlarge you when you understand His gentleness and engage it in your personal life.
