Christianity is more than a religion, an activity, or a Sunday routine. Christianity is a kingdom, and every kingdom has a King, citizens, territories, and battles.
Whether we realize it or not, we are in a war. The kingdom of darkness is constantly fighting God’s purpose in our lives, our families, our churches, and our world. That is why believers must stop seeing life as a playground; it is a battleground. And if we must overcome and fulfill God’s purpose, we must rise as soldiers of Christ.
What It Means to Be a Soldier in God’s Kingdom
Paul captures this perfectly in 2 Timothy 2:3–4, where he tells Timothy to “endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” Soldiers are not casual people;they are focused, disciplined, and mission-minded.
A true Christian soldier is:
1. Sold Out
You cannot be half-in and half-out. Soldiers give their entire lives to their mission. So must we.
2. Obedient
Victory in the kingdom is tied to obedience. God’s instructions are your weapons.
3. Loyal
No divided heart. No switching sides. Loyalty to Christ is non-negotiable.
4. Disciplined
Prayer, the Word, fasting, service—these are not suggestions; they are disciplines that shape a soldier.
5. Determined
Things will get tough, but soldiers don’t quit because the mission is bigger than their feelings.
6. Resolute and Rugged
Unshaken, unafraid, unbending—this is the posture of a believer who knows the battle is already won in Christ.
What We Are Fighting Against (Romans 8:35–39)
Our warfare is not vague. Scripture clearly outlines the forces we contend with:
Sin
The flesh
The world’s systems and values
Persecutions
Satanic attacks
We are not fighting people; our real enemies are spiritual. That is why physical strength cannot win these battles; only spiritual strength can.
How We Overcome
Overcoming is not automatic. It requires intentional spiritual positioning. Here’s how:
1. Be Born Again and Spirit-Filled
New birth brings you into the kingdom. Being Spirit-filled empowers you to operate in the fullness of God's power and wisdom to overcome the wiles and oppositions of the enemy.
2. Put On the Whole Armour of God
Ephesians 6:10–18 reminds us that spiritual battles require spiritual weapons. You cannot win with carnality. You win with truth, righteousness, faith, the Word, and prayer.
3. Be Kingdom-Minded
Matthew 11:12 tells us that “the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” This is not passiveness; it is intentional pursuit. Kingdom-minded believers are conscious of divine assignments.
4. Make Up Your Mind to Do Exploits
Every exploit in scripture began with a decision. Daniel “purposed in his heart.” David stepped out against Goliath. Determination activates grace.
Conclusion
The Church is not weak. The believer is not powerless. We are God’s battle axes—His instruments of change, deliverance, and victory. But we must understand the times, discern the warfare, and embrace our identity as soldiers.
You are not just attending church; you are part of an army.
You are not just surviving; you are meant to overcome.
You are not just living; you are called to do exploits.
It’s time to rise.
