God is saying that as we hope to build, we have to build according to the pattern revealed to us.
In Hebrews 8:5, we saw the mention of the pattern revealed on the mount. Moses was called to build according to the pattern revealed to him on the mount. The passage goes on to say that Jesus Christ is the Mediator of a better covenant.
It is striking to note that there was an establishment of the fact that the Old Covenant based on the law and prophets would be abolished and Christ would be the pattern to follow. This happened at the Mount of Transfiguration.
The pattern we are to build according to is the New Testament and Jesus is the Author of the New Testament. It is “Him we preach.” The goal is to present men perfect in Christ Jesus. There is no foundation that any man can lay except Jesus Christ.
Components of the New Testament ministry – 1 Corinthians 2, 3, 4.
1. Based on the Spirit, not on the letter
2. Ministration of life, not death
3. Righteousness, not condemnation
4. Ministry of glory
5. Ministry of the gospel
