Pattern means repetition. God specialises in repeating what happened/is happening in the life of Christ in our lives – His victory over temptation and over the devil.
Christ is our life but He is also our Goal. He must become our standard and we must pattern our life after Him. He must be our Model and Specimen. Pattern means shape, figure, influence etc,. Christ is the “Who” we must strive to become like. We must long to grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ. Our lives must be built according to Christ who is the pattern (express image) of God.
As a member of the body of Christ, you are part of God’s temple. Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone. He is the head and leader. He must be followed. The goal is to become like Him.
Philip said, Show us the Father. Jesus said, “Show us the Father…” Jesus said, “If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.” In other words, “I am His Patter.”
We are anointed but we are not and cannot be the Anointed One.
We belong to a kingdom of priests but we are not the High Priest.
In what aspects/areas are we to become like Christ?
His virtues and victories (over degeneration, diseases, demons and death)
His character and charisma
His fruits and fruitfulness
His purity and power
His godliness and glory
We must not possess one without the other.
While we have come to an understanding and personal experience of the finished work of Christ, we must yet advance and consciously allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow in our lives through prayer and commitment.
Dimensions of growth
Luke 2:52
Increase in stature
Increase in wisdom
Favour with God
Favour with man
The process of experiencing growth in these dimensions is through the discipleship process.
